Clubhouse vs Spotify’s Greenroom, Who’s going to make it out of the ring?
Ding, Ding, Ding!
Good evening and welcome to tonight’s match between two strong competitors. Tonight’s matchup promises to be a classic. In the green corner, weighing in with 15 years of service and has one of the world’s largest music streaming platforms around, standing with over 365 million monthly active users including 158 million paying subscribers and counting…..it’s Spotify’s “World of Conversations” Greenroom! And in the calming neutral corner weighing in with 10 million weekly active users and more than 300,000 rooms being created each day, standing at about 1 and half years of service it's “invitation-only” Clubhouse!
LET’S GET READYYYYYY TO RUMMMMMBLEEEE!!
For those of you still sleeping under a rock, the fight is on and it's not on pay-per-view! You can watch it go down right on the apps themselves! Just create an account with Greenroom or Clubhouse if you don’t already have one and watch it all unfold. The question is, who’s going to make it out of the ring without a TKO?
Three days ago, Spotify launched a new app called Greenroom, which has squeezed a pound of lemon juice into Clubhouse’s anus apparently and caused an uproar. If you were a ride or die follower for what was once the “Locker Room”. You have now been catapulted onto the new Greenroom platform which Spotify acquired in March 2021.
The irony here is, Greenroom started as a place where sports was all the main chatter, hence the term ‘Locker Room’ in the beginning. But since being acquired, it has now opened up the platform to be a basis for so many other topics of discussion. And here lies the thorn, Clubhouse users have migrated over to test out the app and to see what the fuss is all about.
If you are anything like me, I have been a fan of Spotify for years. I began using Spotify in 2008 and have been a devoted fan ever since. My playlist on Spotify is bursting at the seams and still growing in numbers by the day. With that said, when I learned of the new interactive forum created by one of my favorite music apps, I quickly signed up and BOOM I was joining a room with tons of other wide-eyed newbies within minutes. By the time I was aware of the platform, it was only a mere 3 days old. Being on the front end of an evaluation feels pretty good though I must admit! But, the question remains, who will end up on top?
I am a Clubhouse user and now a Greenroom user and here is what I’ve observed so far:
Clubhouse: No Chatbox
Greenroom: Chatbox
Clubhouse: Invitation Only
Greenroom: Doesn’t matter
Clubhouse: Moderators
Greenroom: No Mods, People who run the room perhaps and we call them Mods!
Clubhouse: Popularity Contest to get on stage
Greenroom: Depends on who's running it!
Clubhouse: Follow Feature
Greenroom: Follow Feature and Gems!
Clubhouse: A little uptight
Greenroom: Loose, fun, and free…(also depends on who's running it)
Clubhouse: The number of followers determines your status
Greenroom: Gems to show love and status, question mark?
Clubhouse: No Gifs or link sharing in the rooms
Greenroom: Can share links and Gifs!
Clubhouse: Must be on stage to talk
Greenroom: Must be on stage to be verbally heard but has access to chat either way!
Clubhouse: You can create clubs
Greenroom: You can create rooms…..and get more gems!
Clubhouse: People selling their business to make a profit (e-books, links, conferences, websites, tickets to whatever, etc.)
Greenroom: Not yet….keep your coins for now.
Clubhouse: Link in bio for people to pay you
Greenroom: Save your coins! We just here to connect.
Anyways, this is what I have so far. I am sure you can think of many more comparisons that I may have left out. But, looking at the list above, I have my own winner picked in my head! As for now, the fight is still going and may never end. Who knows, Clubhouse and Greenroom may call a truce and wave the white flag of peace. Personally, I am enjoying the show and will continue to utilize both apps for different reasons. Clubhouse, thanks for allowing me to meet new people that I now recognize in the Greenroom!
